Whether or Not I am Ready

Whether or Not I am Ready

John Capellaro

A Fall chill, dusk comes early,

whether or not I am ready.

Another season gone, another begun,

whether or not I am ready.

The meeting I’ve been trying to get for months is now scheduled;

whether or not I am ready.

Weeks and months pass – goals missed – deadlines approach

whether or not I am ready.

New neighbors to welcome, new friends to make

whether or not I am ready.

I’ll exercise tomorrow. Tomorrow comes and goes…

whether or not I am ready.

An opportunity to forgive; a chance to be forgiven; a chance to love…

whether or not I am ready.

Our sons are now men,

whether or not I am ready.

A moment of wonder – was I there? Did it pass? It will come again…

Whether or not I am ready.

Old ways and new possibilities - turns in the road -

whether or not I am ready.

Life looks different today – new promise to consider

whether or not I am ready.

Life blossoms in the eyes of another

whether or not I am ready.

Death does not disappoint

whether or not I am ready.
